Autism/ADHD and Vaccines – are we walking a tightrope whilst blindfolded?
We seem to live in a world of ever increasing health challenges, many of which were relatively uncommon or indeed, unheard of just 25 – 30 years ago. For example the levels of asthma in children are dramatically increasing, the same is happening with diabetes type 1 in children under the age of 7 as well as other auto-immune disorders, such as severe multiple allergies, childhood cancer, autism, ADHD, ASD, and the list goes on.
Some people would argue that the availability of social media plays a part in the dissemination of news, or that diagnostics are more accurate. But is this all due to social media, or better diagnostics? We hardly see some of these topics discussed in the mainstream media, specially what might be the causation(s). We could probably agree that several causative factors could be responsible.
Theories are abound for the development of these often serious and life-long health problems. For example we’re told that children are too clean these days, don’t get dirty and muddy to enable them to build natural immunity, or that their homes are over cleaned with chemicals and biocides, whilst their diet is poor, full of sugar, unhealthy fats, and often lacking in the necessary nutrients that a healthy body needs.
It is also common practice to unquestionably trust the medical profession in matters of health. Right from birth we are modelled into trusting healthcare staff and relying on the information they provide us in matters of medical care. This includes diagnostics, prescription drugs, disease prevention and health promotion, vaccinations, and more.
Take autism for example; the graph below gives us an overview of the prevalence of autism in the USA (1970’s – 2018). Look closely, does this not worry you?
In just 40 years, the levels of autism have gone up from one in 10.000 to one in 59. Where will this end? Will we have anyone below the age of 18 without autism in 20 years’ time? (1)
But what if there was a causative factor that could account for the majority of these increasing childhood health problems? One factor that is present and affects 90 – 95 % of all populations? Yes, you guessed it, I am referring to vaccinations.
In fact we are repeatedly told by health care professionals that vaccines are safe and effective.
However, there is also much concern that this may not be so, and many doctors are now speaking out too, alongside parents and alternative health specialists.
Dr Suzanne Humphries states: “The claim that ‘the vaccine science is settled’ is a factually, intellectually, and morally dishonest attempt to silence debate and discussion about the evidence and science in the medical literature, which speaks against the mainstream mantras.” (2)
We also know of so many past medical scandals that could, and should have been avoided. One example is the drug Thalidomide that had such catastrophic consequences for people around the world. Even smoking! For a very long time we were told that smoking was safe, in fact it was often promoted by doctors in advertising, and yet it has emerged that scientists already knew in the 1940’s that smoking caused lung cancer, but suppressed this information. So, why should we believe that vaccines are safe and effective?
It is common knowledge that students at Medical and Nursing Schools receive very little or no education on the ‘science’ of vaccinations, including safety issues and effectiveness.
We also know that:
• There has been an increase in financial partnerships between academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry.
• More than half of medical research funding now comes from pharmaceutical companies
• There are serious conflict of interest implications for vaccine research funded by major pharmaceutical companies and conducted by researchers in academia. (3)
Not only this, but recently the Editor of the trusted British medical journal ‘The Lancet’ stated that almost half of all medical scientific research is false (4)
So, we live in a society where the majority of the population trusts the medical profession, and where the pharmaceutical companies fund a good deal of medical research, almost half of which seems to be false, and our mainstream national media appears uninterested in analysing and debating concerns about the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations.
One way of settling this argument would be to undertake long-term surveys comparing the health of vaccinated and unvaccinated children. Alas, there appears to be a lack in interest in doing so.
Quoting Dr Humphries again, she says:
“There is a paucity of studies comparing never vaccinated children, with partially or fully vaccinated children. In 2017 two important articles were released regarding vaccinated and unvaccinated homeschooled children. The results should make any thoughtful scientist step back and ask exactly what vaccines are achieving.” (5)
Another study found that vaccinated children have a 420% higher risk of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) compared to non-vaccinated children. I don’t know about you, but after reading this paper, I would be seriously questioning the benefits versus the potential risks of vaccinating. (6)
It’s not just Autism and ADHD. Below, is a graph comparing the incidence of several illnesses occurring in both vaccinated and unvaccinated children. I don’t know about you, but looking at this chart, I would feel tempted to demand more research to establish what exactly is going on. (7)
In 1992, the Immunization Awareness Society (IAS), which is now known as wavesnz.org.nz, conducted a survey to examine the vaccination status and health of New Zealand’s children. The results indicated that unvaccinated children were far healthier than vaccinated children. (8)
In 2014, Dr. Mayer Eistenstein reported that a study comparing vaccinated children to unvaccinated children had been carried out in the 1990s, which revealed that compared to unvaccinated children, vaccinated children were more likely to suffer from asthma, eczema, ear infections, hyperactivity and many other chronic conditions. (8)
Furthermore, the researchers also discovered a ten-fold increase in the incidence of tonsillitis in the children who were vaccinated, and a total lack of tonsillectomy operations among the children who were unvaccinated. (8)
One question that needs addressing urgently is that of the added ingredients to vaccines, specially Thimerasol, Aluminium, and more recently the addition of Polysorbate 80 – this chemical opens the blood-brain barrier, thus allowing toxic metals to cross into the brain.
Bearing in mind that the levels of aluminium used in vaccines far exceed the safe levels allowed, do we know how this aluminium is affecting a small baby’s brain?
For example a 6 kg baby at two months of age receives 1,225mcg of aluminum from their vaccine schedule – 50 times the safety levels. (8)
Another effort to discount vaccinations in autism has gone into research to prove defective genes as the major culprit. Some epidemiological studies based on twins with autism spectrum disorders was done as early as the mid-1970s. Since then, autism has increased 40-fold. All this from a sudden case of bad genes? This rapid autism rise has coincided with a dramatic increase of early childhood vaccination schedules over the same period, which has been an almost four-fold increase. (9)
Dr Jayne Donegan, a well known UK medical doctor has also added her contribution to this debate.
It’s not just the issue of safety that should concern us. The effectiveness of vaccines is often questioned too. We keep being told how vaccinations have eradicated some childhood illnesses, but if we look at the chart below, we can see that some childhood illness were already on the way out by the time vaccines were introduced. In fact one particular illness – scarlet fever, almost disappeared completely and we don’t even have a vaccine for scarlet fever (10)
Not long ago we heard about a measles epidemic at Disneyworld in Florida; there was another measles epidemic in Wales (UK), and more recently there was also a whopping cough epidemic in Eng-land. Assuming that 90-95% of all children have been vaccinated, it is impossible to conceive that all those who contracted measles were the 5-10% who were not vaccinated and all congregated on the same spot at the same time.
More recently we have learned of how the MMR vaccine appears to be failing to confer immunity in China. The study published in PLoS titled, “Difficulties in eliminating measles and controlling rubella and mumps: a cross-sectional study of a first measles and rubella vaccination and a second measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination,” has brought to light the glaring ineffectiveness of two measles vaccines (measles–rubella (MR) or measles–mumps–rubella (MMR) ) in fulfilling their widely claimed promise of preventing outbreaks in highly vaccine compliant populations. (11)
One interesting, albeit worrying observation is the exponential increase in the levels of childhood autism, which seems to correlate fairly closely with the increase in the number of vaccines in the vaccination schedule. For example, in the USA, children (from birth to 18 yrs old) were given 24 vaccines in 1983; by 2016 the number of vaccines has gone up to 69, and it is even higher in 2018. (12)
Likewise, in the UK, we can see how the vaccine schedule has increased so much for children under the age of 5. (13)
So, we have an exponential increase in the levels of autism, at the same time as vaccine schedules continue to increase in number too. Is this just a coincidence? Should we just accept that this is the way it is?
Do parents and guardians receive enough impartial information that enables them to make informed choices? Do we have a right to make informed choices? Are parents given the vaccines’ inserts to enable them to read in full what they should know? In the UK, parents receive an information leaflet that does not contain all the information as printed in the vaccine inserts. I cannot comment for other parts of the world, but perhaps our colleagues here can contribute to this debate.
Dr Suzanne Humphries states:
“It is my place as a doctor, to understand as much as I can about vaccines and to give people a more complete understanding from which to make INFORMED choices.
Informed choice is not the stance of the public health services.” (2)
As far as public debate is concerned, there appears to be a total disinterest by the main stream media in the issues highlighted here. Vaccinations seem to have become the sacred cow of medicine, and anyone who questions it is usually vilified and discredited.
In 2017, the film Vaxxed was premiered in the UK, but not without problems. There was a orchestrated and concerted effort to stop its showing, by individuals who seem to have a vested interest in suppressing healthy analysis and debate of an issue that seems to be affecting populations around the globe. (14)
The consequences of the exponential increase in levels of autism and ADHD have potentially serious consequences for governments and society in general. For example, there has been a need to allocate extra resources to schools in terms of support staff, educational programmes, even special schools for these children. Parents also have to cater for the special needs of their children, depending on how severe the autism is; and who will support them when they are adults, or what will happen to them when their parents are no longer alive?
In conclusion, at the present time we have only just scratched the surface of the issue of autism and ADHD; my aim in this article is to challenge the reader to pause, reflect and ask: do vaccines do more good than harm, or it is actually the other way round? Just who is considered to be responsible for my health and that of my family – my doctor, my country’s government or myself? Do we need to stand up as a profession, and be more pro-active?
The big question seems to be, are we not only failing our patients but also the greater good of the world’s populations, unless we question and do not just ‘accept’ what science and medicine tells us, especially as ‘vested interests’ seem to have such a strong influence on what we are told?
The health journalist Phillip Day has done just that in his book ‘Health Wars’ – he argues how the multinationals have a vested interest in keeping all of us ill, for this is the only way that they can continue making money. (15). His propositions are supported by Goldman Sacks Bank which recently stated that they would not invest in the alternative health industry because it tends to cure people, so there is little profit to be made from it. (16)
I invite you to become an advocate for those who are unable or who are too young to ask questions, or to stand up for themselves, or whose parents don’t have the knowledge or tenacity to challenge.
Children and young adults suffering with autism, ADHD, ASD, deserve our loyalty, support and action.
In the UK, we recently shared the anguish and pain felt by baby Alfie Evans’ parents and family. It is impossible for anyone who is caring to witness such horror, and not to ask any questions. Hopefully we will learn much from this very sad event. There are questions not only about causative factors (ie. the role that vaccinations may have played), but also the issue of parental rights versus the State’s perceived protectionist rights.
What has been happening in the field of healthcare is fast becoming unsustainable. On the other hand Homeopathy has so much to offer, being a sustainable form of medicine not influenced by market forces.
One could argue that one of the reasons why the denialists want to see the demise of homeopathy and other natural modalities, is that more and more people are choosing these modes of healthcare in place of conventional medicine which is reductionist in approach and only has drugs to offer.
I find myself wondering whether there is a need for something radically different to happen. As a profession, do we need to do something collectively? Do we need to stand up more, do we need to speak up more? How do we go about doing this? I know that I am asking more questions than providing answers, and this is because at the moment I don’t have the answers either. But I have a deep and sincere desire to do my best to make a difference that will be both worthwhile and sustainable.
I would like to believe that others in our community would like to do the same for the bigger benefit of sustainable and effective healthcare for all.
Footnote: I have just carried out an impromptu, unrepresentative survey of homeopathic colleagues on a homeopathic professional group. I asked them if they knew of any health care professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives) who did not vaccinate their children. Most of those who replied, surprisingly said that they do know of at least one doctor, or nurse or midwife who did not vaccinate their children, and they added that these professionals keep this quiet. I certainly know of two medical doctors who do not vaccinate their children, and again they do not talk about it. It was shared with me in confidence.
