A Case of Psoriasis Treated with Homeopathy
Psoriasis is an auto immune disorder. It occurs as a result of a sped-up skin production process. Typically, skin cells grow deep in the skin and gradually rise to the surface; eventually, they fall off upon their life term. People who develop psoriasis, their skin production process tends to occur fast, because of which, the skin cells don’t have sufficient time to fall off. This rapid overproduction leads to the build-up of skin cells.
TYPES OF PSORIASIS –
PLAQUE – It is the most common type of psoriasis. It causes raised, inflamed, red skin covered with silvery, white scales. It may cause itchiness and burning. It can appear anywhere on the body, but the most common sites are elbows, knees and scalp.
GUTTATE -This type is often found in children or young adults in the form of small, pink or red spots on the skin. It’s usually triggered by a bacterial infection such as strep throat. It’s marked by small, drop-shaped, scaling lesions. Most commonly affected areas are the trunk, upper arms and thighs.
PUSTULAR – This is an uncommon type and mostly appears in adults. It causes pus-filled bumps (pustules) surrounded by red skin. It may look infectious but normally it is not. It can appear on any one area of the body, such as hands or feet. Sometimes it covers most of the body, which is called generalized pustular psoriasis.
INVERSE – This type is usually found in folds of skin like armpits, under the breasts, around the genitals or buttocks. Symptoms are bright red, smooth, and shiny areas but no scales, which get worse with sweating and rubbing.
ERYTHRODERMIC – It’s a serious and uncommon type. It affects most of the body and causes widespread, fiery skin. Symptoms may be severe itching, burning or peeling followed by changes in body temperature. This type of psoriasis can cause severe illness from protein and fluid loss.
NAIL PSORIASIS – Some people with psoriasis have nail changes. Nail psoriasis is common in people who have psoriatic arthritis, which affects their joints. Symptoms include pitting of nails, tender, painful, yellow, dirty looking nails, or separation of the nail from the bed.
PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS – Psoriatic arthritis is a condition where the patient develops both psoriasis and arthritis. Symptoms are – painful, stiff joints that are worse in the mornings and/or after rest. There may be sausage-like swelling of fingers and toes.
This is the basic information and classification of psoriasis. In conventional medicine, there is no treatment to cure the psoriasis. There are oral steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the inflammation, topical steroid creams and phototherapy. However, notably, none of these cures the problem from the root; these remedies only supress the condition – And as they say, “When there is no hope for cure, that is where Homeopathy treatment starts”.
Herewith I enumerate my case of PLAQUE PSORIASIS:
A male patient, 37 years old, came with complaints of plaque psoriasis. He had big patches on scalp for 7 years and now the patches started to spread behind the ears. There were red patches on legs too.
Symptoms – Itching. dandruff-like, silvery flakes that used to come out upon itching.
Past history – of frequent occipital headache, < after sleep, > taking disprin.
Physical generals-
Stool, thirst, sleep, dreams – not specific
Desire for spicy food, more sweat on forehead and nose
Mental symptoms-
He was a very calm person, spoke very less, always smiled, rarely got angry, didn’t like if someone pointed a finger at him. He used to think about his future, a lot. He used to make many plans, listened to others. In his words, “I don’t give advice to anyone if they don’t ask”. He thought more about small things.
Actions taken-
I took his symptoms and analysed on SYNTHESIS REPERTORY.
On basis of totality of symptoms and his constitution, I prescribed Calcarea Carb. 200, 1 dose and Mezereum 30, everyday once.
Results-
After 15 days, eruptions on legs were better, dry and localized. Itching was less.
I continued the same treatment for next 1 month after which,, the thickness of patches reduced, very less flakes were coming out however a watery and sticky discharge started to come out. This is when I changed the medication. I gave him Graphites 200, weekly once and SL three times a day. He started getting better, patches started reducing – I continued the same treatment with Graphites till entire effected area of the skin became normal.
To finish the treatment and being mindful of his miasmatic constitution, I gave him Sulphur 200, 3 doses every fortnight. Results are depicted in the patient’s photographs below – he is now absolutely normal – thanks to homeopathy !
Conclusion-
To conclude, generally in such cases, we don’t get any particular symptoms, mostly in all psoriasis cases there is dry flaky skin with itchiness and burning + thick patches.
So it is very important to find the person specific constitutional medicine and then no one can stop you to cure the disease.
