LET US SOLVE ADHD WITH HOMEOPATHY!

INTRODUCTION

Every child can be naughty, defiant and impulsive from time to time, which is perfectly normal. However, some children have extremely difficult and challenging behaviors that are outside the norm for their age. The most common behavior disorder is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Impulsiveness, lack of attention and hyperactivity makes a trio of ADHD.

DISCUSSION

CAUSES OF ADHD-

Exact causes are still not fully discovered yet. Probable causes can be

1)Neurophysiology – which includes differences in brain anatomy, electrical activity and metabolism.

2)Genetics – some research suggests possible gene mutations may be present.

3)Drugs – the child’s mother having used nicotine(smoking) or cocaine during pregnancy.

4)Lead – chronic exposure to low levels of the metal lead may influence behaviour and brain chemistry

5)Childhood post-traumatic stress disorder – a child with this disorder may have symptoms similar to ADHD, but will need different treatment.

6)Lack of early attachment – if a baby does not bond with their parent or caregiver, or has traumatic experiences related to the attachment, this can contribute to their inattention and hyperactivity.

7) According to Homeopathy, emotional suppression of mother during pregnancy and laction, too is responsible behind behavioral disorders.

8) Few studies supportFluridification and Hypothyroidism are linked with behavior disorders.

TYPES OF ADHD-

1)ADHD predominantly inattentive type( ADHD PI OR ADHD I)

If the child meets the criteria for lack of attention, but not the criteria for hyperactivity-impulsivity, for the past six month.

Symptoms-

1)Be easily distracted, miss details.

2)Forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another.

3)Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless doing something they find enjoyable.

4)Have trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities.

5)Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others.

6)Struggle to follow instructions.

7)Have trouble understanding details; overlooks details.

8)Daydream, become easily confused, and move slowly.

9)Makes a lot of mistakes when speaking or writing (Cham, Sil); will omit or transpose letters or words; or calls things by the wrong name.

10)Poor handwriting, writes indistinctly.

11) Unwilling to do tasks that need continuing mental effort (such as school work or homework.)

12)Appear not to be listening when spoken to.

13)Not give close attention to details, or make seemingly careless.

Rubrics from Repertory-

2)ADHD PREDOMINANTLY HYPERACTIVE-IMPULSIVE TYPE

If the child meets the criteria for hyperactivity-impulsivity, but not the criteria for lack of attention, in the past six months.

Impulsiveness

  • A child with symptoms of impulsivity will often: answer before questions have been completed.

  • Have difficulty waiting in turn.

  • Interrupt others (for ex. interrupting conversations or games).

  • Teasing others.

  • Talking over the top of others.

  • Inaccurate judgment of distance, due to which ends up colliding with things: accident prone.

Hyperactivity

A child with symptoms of hyperactivity will often :fidget with their hands or feet or squirm in their seat.

  • Talk too much.

  • Capricious children; constantly need change.

  • Leave their seat in the classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is expected.

  • Have difficulty playing or taking part in leisure activities quietly.

  • Run about or climb excessively in inappropriate situations.

  • Be ‘on the go’ or act as if ‘driven by a motor.’

3) ADHD COMBINED TYPE

  • if the child meets the criteria for both lack of attention and hyperactivity-impulsivity for the past six months.

CRITERIA FOR DIAGNOSING ADHD

The above criteria are often used to diagnose the lack of attention part, hyperactivity-impulsiveness of ADHD.

A child should have 6 or more of these symptoms for at least 6 months to a degree that interferes with their everyday life and is inconsistent with the normal developmental level.

Assessment must include a developmental history of the child’s past behaviors. It will also consider any problems with the child’s early attachment to a parent or caregiver, which may contribute to the behavior.

MATERIA MEDICA OF REMEDIES USEFUL IN ADHD-

1) TUBERCULINUM

Tuberculinum children are very often hyperactive. Will desire to go out even when very sick.Energetic children who will not sit in one place ;always want to be occupied in some activity; as soon as one activity is over, they are ready for another but know what they are doing. He may run around all day playing and pestering his parents.

A Tuberculinum child’s tantrum can be very violent, and may include smashing of toys , but it is seldom as violent as that of the Stramonium child, who will deliberately harm any nearby person with his teeth, his nails or an implement. The Tuberculinum child is generally bright intellectually, but he is easily bored at school, and he may make a nuisance of himself by distracting other children in the classroom. He is likely to love playing vigourous games. Daytime-cheerful;night-fearful. Never well after vaccinations or antibiotics.

Hyoscyamus is obsessive. He would only allow his toys to be put away in a certain order, and would throw a tantrum if his wishes were not followed.

9)LAC HUMANUM

Physically awkward; clumsy; ungrounded. Feels alone; forsaken; isolated; lacks concentration; detached, yet with heightened senses.

CONCLUSION

People with ADHD of all ages are more likely to have problems with social skills, such as social interaction and forming and maintaining friendships. They also may drift off during conversations, miss social cues, and have trouble learning social skills. This is true for all subtypes.

Each child has his own peculiar way of expressing the energy pattern; some expresses themselves through their fears, some through their dreams, some through their use of drawings, and so on. There is no fix remedy for individual child; usually we get shades of different remedies in one child!!

Every case is new and every child is unique!

ADHD IS A BEHAVIOURAL DISORDER, NOT AN ILLNESS OR A SIGN OF LOW INTELLIGENCE.

IT CAN NOT BE CURED BUT CAN BE CONTROLLED.
